Just when you thought your day couldn't get worse...
1. Leave a top level with your character and preferences.
2. Those responding RNG (or just pick!) a status effect. They're now been hit with that effect.
3. Do the thing.
(CW: contains prompts for blindness, mute, paralysis, mind control, and with the potential for illnesses and other sensitive topics. Please add CW: warnings to your subject lines as you see fit.)
PROMPTS
1. Silence
Was there something you wanted to say? Too bad. Hope you're good at charades.
2. Poison
Slow spread, fast spread. You don't know. All you know is you gotta do something about it and you gotta do it fast.
3. Toad
You're a mean, green fighting machine. And also the size of what used to be your foot. Is that a fly over there?
4. Berserk
You suddenly have an overcoming urge to put the beat down on anything and everything. Verbal, physical, you name it. Can someone snap you out of it? Or maybe they're there to provoke you even more.
5. Blind
You can't see a damn thing. No, you REALLY can't see a thing.
6. Confusion
What's up is now down and what's down is now sideways and why were you there again?
7. Gradual Petrify
It's like quick sand. Only you're becoming your own slate memorial.
8. Paralysis
Your arms, your legs. There's something you can't move or maybe you can't move your whole body.
9. Mini
That's funny. You could have sworn you were just with the others a minute ago -OH GOD, IS THAT A GIANT ANT?
10. Bind
Sometimes you really do find yourself in a bind. This time, it's literally.
11. Control
Maybe you can't move your arms. Or legs. Or anything. But they sure can.
11. Curse (WILDCARD)
What it says on the tin. Other status effects can be found here.
Kunsel | Final Fantasy VII
8 paralysis it is!
An easy mission, they'd said.
Zack's pretty sure they hadn't accounted for the sheer number of these things populating the sewers below. Not usually a thing for SOLDIERs to handle. Hell, usually things like these were few enough to be left to their own devices and pretty much harmless unless someone went looking for trouble. Which makes it all the more odd when he'd taken a few quiet steps down the pipeline and finally caught sight of more than a dozen beady, bright red eyes.
Now, they're barreling back through from whence they came while Zack's shouting over his shoulder: ] You know, I'm really starting to think I should'a taken up your advice on the fire materia right about now!
no subject
Yeah, well, maybe next time you'll listen to your buddy who does his research!
[To be fair, no one had known what exactly had floated in with the storms, but come on! It's just good sense to be armed with Fire when going into such a wet environment.
Anything else Kunsel might have said on the matter, though, gets cut off when one of the monsters shrieks. Kunsel curses and dodges, something supersonic and nearly invisible ripping through the air just where he'd been.]
Careful! I think these things have some kind of energy attack that-!
[He dodged the first one, but then there's half a dozen more all following the first one's lead, and there's no room in these tunnels to avoid that many blasts. One catches Kunsel's legs in mid-leap, setting his nerves on fire. With a strangled cry, he lands back down.
His legs buckle, collapsing him to the ground.]
no subject
The next, he's hearing that shout. By the splash, Zack's skidding and twisting his body. Vaulting himself back his friend's way with a: ] Kuns! Hang on!
[ Ends up squawking after when one of those things shoot whatever the hell it is that apparently hit Kunsel at him. He ducks and swerves, a bright glow coming from one of the materia in his bracers before a part of the pipeline begins to shudder violently. The Twin Brains scream in alert, temporarily surprised and confused.
It gives Zack time to kneel and try to collect Kunsel as fast as possible with a: ] Talk to me, buddy!
no subject
Zack, I can't feel my legs.
[Can't feel them, can't use them, can't-
Fuck!
There's no time for his thoughts to derail into panic, because he's too well trained to let them when there's a swarm of enemies bearing down on them. With a brutal yank of his focus, Kunsel throws out a spell at the two monsters that had just lunged at Zack's unprotected back. Lightning crackles, lancing from one to the other. Not strong enough to kill them, but they back off with twin shrieks.
It hardly counts as a victory, though. Not with a dozen or more surging forward to take their place.]
Zack!
no subject
The loud crack of the lightning that shoots out and barbecues some of the monsters on their tail serves as a great distraction at least. Resharpens Zack's focus to their surroundings and- ] Shit!
[ Zack just acts full stop holds up his hand again and out shoots another blast of energy. The sewer quakes again violently and the twin brains scatter to try and dodge out of the way of the debris that falls from above.
It won't give them much time, but he hopes it's just enough to throw his friend over his back. To try and get them high tailing down the pipeline as water bursts from some of the pipes above, spraying the soaked and discombobulated creatures so far from the outreaches of their home. At least enough to gain some distance before they're shooting whatever the hell that was at them again. ]

Stop using Quake! [Urgency snaps through his voice. Zack's not an idiot. He knows using Quake is a bad idea when they're underground like this. It was a tactic born of desperation, Kunsel knows that, but if Zack doesn't stop, he's going to risk bringing the tunnels down on their heads!
A shriek interrupts him before he can suggest something else, and Kunsel's reacting without a second thought. He lashes out with his sword, and even with the awkward angle he has, he still manages to bat the Twin Brain back.
Well. If they're reduced to tactics on the fly...]
Just keep running! I'll deal with anything that gets too close!
no subject
Doesn't stop him from tightening his fist into the start of yet another spell. But he can hear the strain in Kunsel's voice. A risk not willing to take at the moment, still buried too deep into the tunnels and soaked to the bone.
Zack lets the spell dissolve even as he hears that shriek right behind them, feels the current of air pushed aside with that sharp swing as Kunsel takes out one of those things right behind him and Zack swears.
Swears but moves. Double time now, he vaults over yet another connector and sprints as far as he can without interruption, but the pipe's uneven and full of filth and slippery spots and the screaming from behind just feels like it will never end.
Another shriek and Zack staggers, hissing loudly as feeling in his arm from the elbow down goes unresponsive. But it doesn't stop his running and it doesn't stop the way he's looking for their best bet- there has to be some way out of there nearby- ]

But now's not the time to focus on what he can't control. Gritting his teeth, he whips his sword back to intercept another attack. The monster dodges, but that's fine. He just needs a second, needs a moment, needs to think. Needs time to charge another lightning spell, because even though it's almost as bad an idea as Quake is, what with all the water everywhere-
Wait.
Water.
Water everywhere, flooding out of its channel, splashed on the walls with every footstep, and in the handful of materia Kunsel brought with him for this is-]
Zack! Pick path that narrows! I'm gonna block it with an Ice spell!
[He's already switching which spell he's charging up, letting it build and whine in his veins, no matter how long it takes before they're in a place he can cast it.]
no subject
[ The question comes out automatic before the rest of the context fully clicks. Clicks and then he whoops in excitement, vigor renewed as he braces himself. ] You got it, Kuns!
[ Because they've got this. At least he's pretty damn sure they will if he can just keep them moving. Keep on swerving and ducking and- yelling expletives when there's a renewed swarm of those things popping out of the pipeline where he'd been intent on turning and the only thing that keeps him from reacting without thinking is the fact that his remaining working hand is the only thing keeping Kunsel precariously balanced over his shoulder in that moment. Has him skidding and almost hitting them into the side of the pipe before he regains his momentum.
They're right back where they were before, but at least they made it past that second group that joined the first and- ]
Kuns, you hear what I'm hearing?
[ Because that growing hiss doesn't sound like one of those things chasing them. In fact, it sounds like rushing water. ]
no subject
Shit!]
Zack, find a maintenance tunnel or a control room or higher ground now! If that's the water from the upper tunnels-!
[He really, really doesn't need to see all the Twin Brains fleeing with shrieks to realize how fucked they're about to be.]
no subject
But Zack doesn't stop. If anything, he starts doing double time. Skids, hops, and bolts over another giant connector. Shouts seconds later when he slips and slides, unintentionally ragdolling Kunsel this way and that before he finally finds his balance again. He hurries to make his pace match the one from before, but the water is getting louder and louder and there's still not an escape route in sight.
At least not until he rounds the corner and sees- ] A maintenance ladder!
[ He beelines for it as quick as he can muster, even as he shouts: ] Kuns, you're gonna have to do the climbing! I don't got enough arms intact to carry and climb!
no subject
If he's still alive tomorrow to care.]
That's fine! I don't need legs to climb a ladder!
[At most he might need Zack's help to push him up over the edge at the top, but the ladder itself? Child's play for someone with a SOLDIER's strength and training. As soon as Zack's close enough, Kunsel lunges with one hand for the first rung in reach, his other clipping his sword back on his harness. Rung after rung, it's just pull-ups from here.
Well. Up until the wall of water roars into the tunnel they're in.]
and now that this cold isn't destroying me as much...
Zack hits for double time, pushing up and up. Sometimes literally pushing. There's no such thing as personal space in SOLDIER and this time sure as hell works as a reminder. They're so damn close, but even with Kunsel as strong as he is and for as fast as he's moving all things considered, that water's just not going to wait on them.
Which might be why Zack gives him a solid shove in the ass at the last moment. Shoves him right up above into the start of the pipeline before the water surges over them and yanks him sideways on the ladder. ]
no subject
Worse, though, with the water that high, and with Zack below him-]
Zack!
[Kunsel rolls, twisting himself around so that he can plunge his arm back into the flood spewing from the pipe, desperately grasping for his friend's arm.]
whoops, everything ate me
It would have been peaceful if not for the way he's being ragdolled around along the ladder. Hanging on desperately despite himself because how the fuck he's going to manage this one-armed, he has not a clue. Holding breath, eyes closed from the pressure and pretty sure he's about to breath in water any moment through his nostrils anyway, Zack debates the real merits of having used Quake earlier. The worst fucking idea ever, really.
Then nearly loses what breath he has in a gasp when his body gets tugged hard up and up. His working arm flails and reaches out and manages to clasp onto a higher rung, yanking himself high enough to break the surface of the water now. To sputter and choke, barely realizing the hand that had somehow managed to snake under the pit of his paralyzed arm and give him the support he needed.
He's not going to bother focusing on that right then when he still has to climb. Yank himself out of that pipe and maybe he does so a little too hard with the way he suddenly rolls out, himself, still coughing and breathless but alive. For the moment anyway. ]
Me too
You... you okay?
[He's not the one who'd been coughing, but the words come out raw anyway. Zack's not the only one out of breath here, and they've both probably got way too much adrenaline in their systems.]

[Zack and Cloud had been hired to clear some of them out of the slums. Though hired might have been a strong way to put it. It was hard to say no to the sad eyes of citizens in the slums when they asked for help keeping their homes safe. Zack was especially susceptible to the tactic. So the pay was minimal, to say the least.]
[He grabbed another handful of webbing, pulling it out of their way with a huff. But he assumed the increased amount of web meant they were getting close to where the bugs had taken to hiding.]
Guess I can't blame people for not wanting to deal with this crap themselves...
no subject
Damn it! I don't usually mind bugs, but these ones are the worst! They make the ones back in Gongaga look adorable, you know? -which, I mean. Some of the little guys were, but you know..
no subject
[Cloud snorted a bit at Zack getting the webbing stuck on his glove for a moment. But leave it to Zack to be over enthusiastic about getting rid of bugs.]
We didn't really have that many bugs in general around Nibelheim. At least not big nasty ones like this.
no subject
[ Zack finally gets rid of a stray piece of webbing hanging off his elbow now with a huff. Then squints at one of the long platforms a few yards off. One absolutely covered in the webs they just dealt with and groans. Groans but that sure doesn't stop him from reaching now to slowly take the grip of the Buster in hand and begin to remove it from the oversized magnet. ]
And I'm... pretty sure that's one of these thing's nests.
